Day 1: Londorossi Gate (2,250m) – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m)
After registration at Londorossi Gate, you’ll drive a short distance to the trailhead. The trek begins in lush rainforest, with a gradual ascent to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp. Keep an eye out for black-and-white colobus monkeys and exotic birds.
Trekking time: 3–4 hours
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa – Shira 1 Camp (3,500m)
The trail leads out of the forest and into the moorland zone, with expansive views. You’ll cross the Shira Ridge and enter the Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus in the world. Overnight at Shira 1 Camp, with stunning views of Kibo Peak.
Trekking time: 5–6 hours
Day 3: Shira 1 – Shira 2 Camp (3,840m)
An easy walk across the beautiful Shira Plateau. This day allows your body to adjust to the altitude while enjoying panoramic views. Depending on conditions, your guide may take a detour to Shira Cathedral, a rocky outcrop with impressive views.

Day 4: Shira 2 – Lava Tower (4,630m) – Barranco Camp (3,960m)
This is a key acclimatization day. You’ll ascend to Lava Tower for lunch at high altitude, then descend to Barranco Camp. The “climb high, sleep low” strategy helps prepare your body for summit day.
Trekking time: 6–8 hours
Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp (4,035m)
Climb the impressive Barranco Wall—a non-technical but steep ascent offering epic views. The trail continues through rolling terrain to Karanga Camp. A shorter day, giving you time to rest and adjust.

Day 6: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp (4,640m)
A gradual but steady climb brings you to Barafu Camp, your base before the summit push. You’ll arrive by early afternoon to rest, hydrate, eat, and prepare. Sleep early—you’ll be waking around midnight to begin your summit attempt.
Trekking time: 3–4 hours
Day 7: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,100m)
Summit day! Begin your climb around midnight, reaching Stella Point by sunrise, then continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating, descend back to Barafu for a short rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp.
Trekking time: 12–14+ hours
Day 8: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate (1,640m)
After breakfast, descend through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate. From there, transfer back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha for a hot shower and well-earned rest.
